Multi-days expedition

mobulas & megafauna expeditions

An immersion into the heart of marine life

About this
amazing trip

Every year, the waters of La Ventana transform into a stunning scene where thousands of mobula rays gather, creating a mesmerizing aquatic dance. This natural event makes La Ventana a top destination for underwater expeditions. This unforgettable 7-day adventure includes 6 days at sea, allowing you to witness these creatures up close.

An Unmatched Marine Diversity
While the mobula ray migration is the highlight, La Ventana’s waters offer a rich variety of marine life. Sharks glide below, while majestic orcas and whale species (blue, fin, and Bryde’s) may appear. With luck, a humpback whale could also join the marine symphony.

The Spectacle of Dolphins
La Ventana is also known for its large dolphin groups. From bottlenose to common dolphins, rough-toothed dolphins, and Risso’s dolphins, each species brings its own energy. Their playful behavior and spectacular leaps add wonder to every encounter.

Lots of questions
popping up already?

We’ve got answers for you!

May & June are the peak season for Mobulas in Baja! It’s also the time when bait balls can be seen, bringing predators around. We listed below the species that could be encountered (non exhaustive).

Common marine wildlife : common dolphins (Delphinus delphis), bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus), pantropical spotted dolphins (Stenella attenuata), sea lions (Zalophus californianus), giant school migration of mobula rays (Mobula munkiana), spinetail devil rays (Mobula mobular)

More exceptional but still could happen: Bryde’s whale (Balaenoptera brydei), blue whales (Balaenoptera musculus), humpback whales (Megaptera novaeangliae), orcas (Orcinus orca), dwarf sperm whales (Kogia sima), Risso’s dolphins (Grampus griseus), rough-toothed dolphins (Steno bredanensis), spinner dolphins (Stenella longirostris), whale shark (Rhincodon typus), silky shark (Carcharhinus flaciformis) and other sharks.

If we are super lucky : sperm whales (Physeter macrocephalus), pilot whales (Globicephala melas), giant manta (Mobula birostris), false orca (Pseudorca crassidens), fin whales (Balaenoptera physalus).

Keep in mind that the sea is not an aquarium, we can not guarantee you sightings ! But with an experienced guide, local captain and marine biologist on board and… all the eyes of the participants, you can be sure that we will do our best to find the animals if they are around !

Swimming with whales is prohibited throughout Mexico, so we won’t attempt to go into the water with them. However, experiencing these magnificent creatures from the surface of the boat is already a tremendous opportunity. Humpback whales are often very active, breaching, tail slapping, and singing. Hearing the powerful blow of a blue whale, which can reach up to 10 meters high, and seing how small is the boat compared to this giant, is guaranteed to be a sensational experience !

We will provide you with all the equipment you need (fins, mask, snorkel, wetsuit, weights, etc.). However, feel free to bring your own equipment if you have it.

Also, bring sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses, long sleeves, and light pants, as the sun can be really strong during a day on the ocean.

It’s usually hot during the day, with water surface temperature between 25°-30°C, and visibility between 15-30 meters.

Normally between 6 to 8 hours. But sometimes it can last longer or shorter depending on the weather, people’ condition on the water, and on the wildlife we see.

To keep things crystal clear and ensure a smooth sailing experience, we’ve laid out these terms and conditions. Dive in for all the details here!

We will do our best to head out to sea whenever possible, scheduling early or later outings and adjusting our itinerary based on the weather (as some of our four destinations are more sheltered from the north wind than others).

Winter is a little more windy in Baja, and sometimes conditions at sea are too rough to ensure your safety. Unfortunately, for multi-day expeditions, we cannot offer a partial refund, as we pay for the package in advance. However, in such cases, we will provide alternative desert activities instead of the missed boat trip, such as artisanal pottery, horseback riding, mammal and bird watching, among others.
