Orcas & whales expedition in Norway 2026

Immersion into the heart of a wild and untamed ecosystem

About this
amazing trip

Embark on a week-long adventure into the heart of the Norwegian Arctic, where icy fjords come alive each winter with one of nature’s greatest spectacles: the herring hunt.

Every year, hundreds of orcas and humpback whales gather in northern Norway to feed in these rich waters. During this expedition, you’ll have the unique opportunity to observe these giants in their natural environment—from the coordinated hunting strategies of orcas to the powerful displays of feeding humpbacks.

Throughout the week, we’ll navigate between fjords, snow-covered mountains, and shifting polar light in search of the best wildlife encounters.
Our experienced team will guide you safely and respectfully, with the possibility—when conditions allow—of entering the water in snorkeling gear for an unforgettable, immersive experience.

This expedition is designed for ocean lovers, nature enthusiasts, and anyone seeking raw, powerful moments in one of the most dynamic and fascinating ecosystems on the planet.

The highlights

Orca and humpback whale encounters

Northern Norway is one of the world’s most important seasonal feeding grounds for orcas (Orcinus orca) and humpback whales (Megaptera novaeangliae). Both species migrate here to exploit the dense winter aggregations of Atlantic herring.
This ecological phenomenon creates unusually high wildlife density, increasing the frequency and quality of encounters. Guests can observe complex orca behaviors—family structures, coordinated hunting, communication—alongside the spectacular feeding strategies of humpbacks, such as bubble-netting or vertical lunges.

Navigation through stunning polar landscapes

Sailing through the Norwegian Arctic in winter is an experience in itself. Towering snow-covered mountains plunge directly into deep fjords, creating dramatic silhouettes that shift as the light changes throughout the day. The low Arctic sun paints the sky in pastel tones—soft pinks, deep blues, and golden reflections—while evenings bring the possibility of glowing auroras overhead.
Every mile reveals a new scene: frozen waterfalls, remote fishing villages, wide-open fjords, and untouched wilderness. This navigation is far more than transit—it immerses you in the raw beauty and serenity of one of the most pristine regions on Earth.

Chance to witness the Northern Lights

Winter in northern Norway offers some of the best conditions on the planet to observe the aurora borealis. Thanks to the region’s location above the Arctic Circle and its minimal light pollution, nights regularly unveil sweeping curtains of green, violet, and white dancing across the sky.
