OUR MISSION
& ACTIONS
Experience a unique and sustainable underwater experience with us by participating in local development, contributing to scientific knowledge & educating locals and tourists to marine ecosystem and conservation.
Participation in local
DEVELOPMENT
It’s a fact that marine conservation and social projects cannot be sustained in the long run if not supported by the locals. So we’d better work all together & find ways to collaborate !
Due to the renown and incredible marine wildlife and landscapes you can find in Baja California, tourism, villages, and conservation concerns are exponentially growing, attracting more and more people each year.
There are many important reasons to work together with the locals, and one of them is that, although shark populations are quickly decreasing, shark fishing is still legal and regularly happening in Baja California. Providing fishermen with a viable alternative source of income through tourism directly helps the ecosystem, and makes them realise there’s more positive consequences, ecological and economical, in conservation than in fishing.
We have a lot to learn from the incredible knowledge of the sea and the area from fishermen, and from their eagle’s eyes to spot everything that jumps out of the water.
If not taken into consideration, the local communities can often be pushed out of the way and back to fishing.
More than service providers,
they are our associates.
We work side by side with 15 local fishermen from the villages around (from La Ventana, Los Planes y Agua Amarga).
More than service providers, they are our associates. We are not just paying them for a captain service, our tours are co-designed with them and we equally divide our plus-value.
Our objective is that they become totally autonomous: we provide them with some help on social media and business plan, captain, guide and diving master courses.

KNOWLEDGE
Underwater data is difficult to obtain. Any information collected is precious for the knowledge of marine wildlife and their protection.
Together with the help of local fishermen, who spend 70% of their time at sea, we have a key role to play when contributing to that knowledge. Sharing their observations through citizen science is a precious help for conservation.
Collaborations with marine scientists and researchers:
– For mammals, with the University Autonomous of Baja California Sur and Dr. Hiram Rosales
– For sharks, with Pelagios Kakunja and Dr. James Ketchum
– For mobulas, with Mobula Conservation and Dr. Marta Diaz Palacios
Monitoring underwater sites:
– We will encourage you to participate to citizen science and note your observations through Naturalista collaborative platforms.
– Form local fishermen, captains and guides to participate to marine citizen science.
So, little recap of all that info:
Why dive with us?
- Discover unique unexplored diving sites of La Ventana.
- Contribute to local development of the area.
- Learn and participate to marine conservation.
Who are we?
MEET OUR TEAM
Te Ma’o Team is created by a union of many souls. Everyone has his own story, nature, experience, knowledge.
We are captain, fisherman, marine biologist, student, cooker, teacher, diver, local, traveler, ocean lover and much more. We all have the same love, in three letters, a small word for an infinite meaning: SEA. And that’s where our strength comes from.
You too, are part of the tribe. You come to discover what brings us together. This is a key for the palomilla.
« Community, family, friends, neighbours, colleagues, associates »; all of this in one Mexican word.
All together, we have the possibility to go at sea, to observe marine life and report informations helping the conservation, nourish the family and more.
Alone we go faster, together we go further.
